Meet Bruce

Hi. My name is Bruce Laugesen. I am the director of Laugesen Limited, Chartered Accountants.
I haven't always been an accountant. I started my career as a statistician in the Department of Statistics. I worked in Sydney as a computer programmer, taxi driver and circus hand and in Hawkes Bay I worked in a Freezing works, rode horses and started market gardening on a small block.
Marriage demanded a better cashflow so I started working for an accountant friend and ended up as Property Manager for Arahi Properties Ltd, a publicly listed company. When things turned to custard in the crash of 1987 I moved to Wellington and worked for Grant Thornton, a medium sized accounting firm. I shifted to Hamilton in 2001 and set up my own practice a few years later. That was the best thing I ever did.
In my spare time I like getting outdoors and riding my bike, or a horse.

Doing Business With Us

We are members of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA). The Institute reviews our work every three years to make sure it is up to scratch.

We are independent of any provider and receive no kickbacks.

The only business relationship we have is with Xero, who provide us with free use of their software, and a discount on client software.

Our fees are based on time spent and reflect market rates. we are happy to give you a quote if you want that.

If we make a mistake we will tell you.

We will keep your affairs confidential and will not discuss or disclose these to anyone else except as agreed between us.

We will do our best to get you the best deal possible in our dealing with the IRD on your behalf. You will pay as little tax as you are legally obliged to pay.

Before we start any work for you we will ask you to sign an authority. This authorises us to become your tax agent and discloses our terms of trade.

Professional Advisors

We do not claim to know everything so we use specialists for taxation and other advice.

We use Brandt Segedin LP for specialist tax advice and attend their education seminars to keep up to date with changes in tax law. They provide tax advice directly to accountants.

We recommend that our property investor clients consider obtaining a chattels valuation when they purchase a new property. There are usually considerable tax and cashflow benefits in doing this.
